Gheorghe Polizu, nr. 1, cod 011061, Sector 1, Bucure\u015fti<\/p>\n<h2>1.4 Duration:<\/h2>\n<p>20th July 2006-15th September 2008<\/p>\n<h2>1.5 Description<\/h2>\n<p><strong>1.5.1 Scope<\/strong> <br \/> The project shall gather a critical mass of high-ranking  human resources from universities, research institutes and SMEs to create a  scientific              research consortium. The final goal of the project is to  accumulate  knowledge in the field of cementitious materials with  addition of calcareous components. The cementitious materials will  feature high  performances and will bring ecological and economical  benefits. They  will be enhanced chemically, structurally, mineralogically  and in  terms of particle size by shifting the particle size range  from the  present domain to the submicron range by means of employing a  calcareous  addition.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1.5.2 Summary<\/strong><br \/> The purpose of the project is to concentrate a critical mass  of valuable  materials and high-ranking human resources from  universities, institutes,  and SMEs within a consortium to unfold joint research so as  to generate              new knowledge in the field of ecological, economical and  high performance              cementitious materials with limestone addition.<br \/> The final result is obtainment of silicate cementitious  materials  optimised in terms of chemistry, structure, mineralogy, and  particle              size distribution by lowering the particle size spectrum to  the sub-micron  range by means of limestone addition.<\/p>\n<p>Limestone addition to a cementitious material brings the  following advantages:<\/p>\n<p><strong>a) In terms of quality optimisation of the  cementitious material:<\/strong><br \/> &#8211; It complements the particle size distribution of a  cementitious material in deficit of fine particles.<br \/> &#8211; It decreases the content in capillary pores (voids between  particles)              of the hardened material.<br \/> &#8211; It interacts with the material in the hydration process  and accelerates the hydration of the tricalcium silicate C3S.<br \/> &#8211; It modifies the arheological parameters of the cement  paste.<br \/> &#8211; It reduces the distances between cement grains.<\/p>\n<p> The final result of the project, consisting of 1-2 high  performance  silicate cementitious materials with limestone addition.<\/p>\n<p> <strong> b) Energy savings. <\/strong>Replacing up to 35%  clinker with  limestone leads to a reduction in the energy consumption in  burning by about 25 KWh\/tone of product. <\/p>\n<p> <strong>c) Abating CO2 emissions by about 220 Kg CO2 \/tone  of product by means of replacing up to 35% of the cement clinker <\/strong><\/p>\n<p> <strong>d) Higher levels of cement clinker replacement are  in itself  a solution for natural energy preservation.<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p> <strong>e) Cementitious materials including limestone that  are developed  at optimal parameters may be used in concrete in all  exposure conditions,  as stated in the European standard for concrete and mortars<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>1.5.3. Objectives<\/strong><br \/> The project PERFORM-MAT-CIM aims at jointly unfolding with  the partners in the consortium of highly complex research &amp;  technological development  activities involving both basic and applied research.  Jointly fulfilling  of the proposed activities will lead to developing long term  partnerships  between the participating institutions, with the aim of  developing  strong material bases for scientific research.<\/p>\n<p> Implementing a science &amp; technology cluster (A private  project  would be a better solution.) to facilitate development of  industrial  applications of the obtained scientific results. Proposal of  a project  which may qualify for the same thematic field within FP7.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1.5.4 Envisaged results<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Documentary study regarding the effects of the limestone  addition   on the physical and chemical process of hardening of the  cementitious  materials by hydration-hydrolysis processes<\/li>\n<li> Results regarding the effects of the limestone addition  on the  hydration-hardening process: the hydration kinetics, the  microstructure  of the hardened cementitious paste, the water demand,  shrinkage,  porosity, strength, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Correlations between the physical and chemical  characteristics  of the limestone addition and the rheology of the  cementitious pastes,  the microstructure characteristics of the hardened paste,  the phase  composition and the physical and mechanical properties of  the hardened  paste<\/li>\n<li>Formulations for obtaining high performance binders with  limestone                addition<\/li>\n<li> Methods for processing the cementitious materials with  limestone                addition<\/li>\n<li>Obtained results at placing the cementitious materials  with limestone                addition and high performances<\/li>\n<li> Establishing the exposure classes of the concrete  obtained using                cementitious materials with limestone addition and,  therefore, the  corresponding fields of application.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>1.6.
